HALAL x Viaplay
Viaplay Group commissions first Dutch film
Viaplay will premiere its first Dutch film, a sharp comedy set around a Christmas dinner where nothing goes as planned, in late 2023. Jacqueline Blom, René van Zinnicq Bergmann, Kiefer Zwart, Stefanie van Leersum, Georgina Verbaan and Barbara Sloesen portray the leading roles, supported by an ensemble of established and new talents as Oscar Aerts, Robbert Bleij, Tim Haars and Remy Bonjasky. The film is directed by Michael Middelkoop as his debut feature and produced by HALAL. Production is underway in Amsterdam. The title is to be announced at a later stage.
Director Michael Middelkoop about the film: This film offers a unique and relatable portrayal of the opinions, tensions, and contradictions that can arise when a family gathers for their annual holiday dinner. It’s a film that is sure to resonate with audiences across the Netherlands and beyond, as we all can relate to the uncomfortable, yet all too familiar experiences of being a black sheep, with a fresh and thought-provoking look at the pressure to be the best version of ourselves during the holidays, and the reality of what happens when we fall short.
The Viaplay streaming service launched in the Netherlands on 1 March 2022 and offers a broad portfolio of Viaplay Films and Series, local and international content as well as premium sports. Viaplay already has more than 1.2 million subscribers in the country.
The film is written by Lotte Tabbers and Isis Mihrimah Cabolet, and produced by Gijs Kerbosch at HALAL with Kennard Bos as executive producer for Viaplay Group. The film is distributed internationally by Viaplay Content Distribution. Viaplay has previously announced ‘Roombeek’, ‘The Hunt for Jasper S.’, ‘Something Stupid’ and ‘The Guilty’ as its first scripted Dutch Viaplay Series.
